Celebrating the Future of HR Leadership
Opportunities for connection, skill development and career readiness are essential to the student experience in higher education. That’s why it’s important to celebrate award-winning student organizations that make a difference for their members and their field of study.
As adviser of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Student Chapter within the School of Business at Western Governors University, I am proud to celebrate its continued achievements as an outstanding organization. Year after year, ºÚÁÏ꿉۪s student club has been recognized by SHRM – the world’s largest human resources association dedicated to creating better workplaces where everyone thrives. This year is no different as SHRM awarded ºÚÁÏÍø SHRM Student Chapter its Superior Merit Award.
This award recognizes outstanding achievements in student chapter operations and commitment to providing meaningful programs and services to members and HR students. It also recognizes the club’s continued growth and the development of its members as future business leaders.
Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, SHRM president and CEO, recently said of this achievement, “The members of our SHRM student chapters embody the future of HR leadership, making it essential to recognize the pivotal role they play in SHRM’s ongoing success. The dedication and achievements of the ºÚÁÏÍø SHRM Student Chapter demonstrate that the profession’s future is in capable and inspired hands. I commend their accomplishments and their ability to drive innovative programming, professional development, and a growing interest in HR as we adapt to the evolving dynamics of the workplace.â€
The SHRM Student Chapter within the ºÚÁÏÍø School of Business has 950 student members and hosts many events throughout the year, ranging from an event to help students prepare for the SHRM-CP (certified professional) exam to learning opportunities on various topics, such as the impact of artificial intelligence and tech tools on the HR profession.Â
Additionally, our student chapter can offer Professional Development Credits (PDC) for our chapter members through our club-sponsored webinar series. To recertify with Professional Development Credits (PDCs), SHRM credential-holders must earn 60 PDCs within their three-year recertification cycle period.
I commend the club’s student leaders and members for their commitment to excellence, along with the organization’s co-advisers, Patricia Morgan, HR instructor and faculty lead, and Debra Gates, HR instructor, because such opportunities are more important now than ever as the HR profession continues to evolve and we develop career-ready students for the future of work.
The students in the ºÚÁÏÍø SHRM Student Chapter provide a unique perspective, which makes it always challenging and exciting to see them make the chapter successful and grow.
